As the Principal of PS 397, my job is to ensure that every child who enters the doors of PS 397 is safe and receives the best education possible; one that prepares them for the careers of tomorrow and one that allows them to be college and career ready. We have created a culture that is family oriented, nurturing and caring so that everyone feels a sense of belonging and that they have a voice. I believe in distributive leadership that lends itself to shared-decision making. Our parents and families play an integral role in the success of our school and this is the reason I have an open-door policy so that families can feel welcome and be assured that I am accessible and available when the need arises.
"Children must be taught how to think, not what to think." - Margaret Mead
PS 397 Foster Laurie takes a whole-child approach to elementary education. Teachers, administrators, counselors, and support staff work together to meet the intellectual, social, behavioral, and emotional needs of each and every child we serve. No two students have exactly the same skills or learning style. That’s why we create an individual learning plan for every child. Your plan will combine direct instruction, small-group work, and one-on-one tutoring in a way that works for your student.
What We Believe
The teachers, administrators and staff at PS 397 Foster Laurie are united in their belief that all children should uphold the following.
PS 397 FOSTER LAURIE ELEMENTARY
"TOGETHER WE ASPIRE, ONE SCHOLAR AT A TIME."
